Job Description
The PEAR Confidential Advocate will provide confidential advocacy for students impacted by interpersonal violence, including sexual assault, dating or domestic violence, stalking, and/or harassment. The confidential advocate will primarily be responsible for providing in-person, virtual, and/or phone support during business hours for SSU student survivors. The position will also assist with prevention and wellness education on related topics. This position falls under the Salem State University Prevention Education Advocacy and Response (PEAR) Program. It is a part-time $35/hour position, and hours per week are flexible and subject to funding.

- Provide confidential advocacy, crisis intervention, and referral services for students who have experienced sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, stalking, and other forms of interpersonal violence. This includes responding to calls/texts to the PEAR phone line, as well as offering in-person and virtual appointments during business hours.
- Collaborate with on and off campus partners to support survivors, including Title IX, University Police, Residence life, Dean of Students Office, Counseling and Health Services, HAWC, and the North Shore Rape Crisis Center, among others.
- Support the development of resource materials for survivors to help them understand their rights, options, resources, and reporting processes. Resources may include flyers, brochures, handouts, social media posts, and other giveaways.
- Plan and facilitate prevention education programs for the campus community, including trainings and workshops for students, staff, faculty, law enforcement, and others on topics such as consent, bystander intervention, healthy and unhealthy relationships, trauma-informed care, and more.
- Coordinate related wellness programming when possible.
- Track program data and complete reports following SSU requirements.
- Work with campus and community partners to stay up-to-date on and implement best practices in the field of prevention and response.
- Follow all university protocols and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, higher education, counseling, public health, psychology, or related field
- Previous experience working with trauma survivors
- Previous sexual assault and/or domestic violence advocacy training
- Experience working with young adults or adolescents
- Knowledge about interpersonal violence and gender-based violence
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with college students, including diverse populations, such as LGBTQ+ populations, students of color, international students, and students with disabilities.
- An understanding of federal and state legislation related to sexual assault and relationship violence prevention and response for college campuses.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, verbal, and written skills.
- Previous experience working or staffing a confidential phone line.
- Professionalism, sensitivity, and ability to uphold confidentiality standards.
